The GM5 ("give me five") is Ploytec's second MIDI chip in its company history, and already used in a number of existing USB MIDI designs. It's a USB2.0, class compliant, configurable single chip solution and works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X and Linux without the need of any additional driver software. The GM5 does all combinations from only MIDI In or only MIDI Out to up to five MIDI Ins and five MIDI Outs working simultaneously. An optional 24C04 EEPROM can be used for customized USB VID/PID, product strings and channel count.

PLOYTEC GM 5 CHIP TECHNOLOGY

A demo board is available to evaluate the amazing data throughput of GM5 in action. Talking about options: Ploytec provides a Windows USB MIDI driver reducing MIDI latency and allowing the use of USB MIDI from more than one application at the same time.

GM5 EVALUATION BOARD

Terrasoniq offers a unique USB MIDI cable interface: It's bi-directional! That means it automatically figures out if it was plugged to a MIDI In or MIDI Out connector, even if you change it on the fly! This three meter long high quality cable has a Ploytec GM5 on the inside and of course: An optional driver. MIDI ONE was successfully tested to work with the iPad Camera Connection Kit.

There's also a pretty cool unit using GM5 from ESI, the M4U XT, available.
